Megadeth es una banda estadounidense de thrash metal liderada por su fundador y principal compositor, Dave Mustaine. Es una de las principales bandas de heavy metal; ha figurado varias veces en el top 10 de las listas del Billboard, y ha vendido más de 20 millones de copias en todo el mundo.[1] Fue creada en 1983, después de que Mustaine fuera expulsado de Metallica, donde ocupaba el puesto de guitarrista. Desde entonces, la banda ha lanzado once álbumes de estudio, tres EP's y dos álbumes en vivo.

La formación de Megadeth ha cambiado mucho y constantemente a lo largo de su historia, en parte a causa del abuso de sustancias por parte de Dave Mustaine, que le ha ocasionado diversos problemas con el resto de la banda. Después de recupera r la sobriedad y encontrar una formación estable tras haber ingresado en una clínica a causa de dichos problemas, Megadeth consiguió varios álbumes de platino y de oro, incluido el álbum multi-platino y nominado al Grammy, Countdown to Extinction, en 1992. Megadeth se disolvió en el 2002 después de que Mustaine sufriese una grave lesión nerviosa en su brazo izquierdo, pero después de una intensa terapia física, el guitarrista reformó la banda en 2004 y Megadeth lanzó el álbum The System Has Failed.

Megadeth es conocida por su distintivo estilo en las guitarras, la forma peculiar de cantar de Mustaine, y los temas de sus letras, a menudo recurrentes, sobre política, guerra, y, más recientemente, relaciones sentimentales. Dos vídeos musicales de la banda han sido censurados en el canal de música MTV debido a supuestos temas a favor del suicidio.[2]
Megadeth es una de las bandas de heavy metal más comerciales de la historia, pues ha vendido más de 20 millones de álbumes en todo el mundo,[1] incluyendo cinco álbumes de platino consecutivos y siete nominaciones consecutivas al Grammy en la categoría de Mejor Interpretación de Metal. A través de sus 25 años en activo, Megadeth ha tenido 18 miembros oficiales, siendo Mustaine el único miembro permanente y el principal compositor. Megadeth es comúnmente mencionada como miembro de los cuatro grandes del thrash metal (Big Four of Thrash), junto con Anthrax, Metallica y Slayer.[3]
