Street Food / Cheap Food (1 Viewer)

Good afternoon. There are Mercados all over town, but -- after Mercado #2 in Surquillo -- I most often wind up in the area of Mercado Lobaton in Lince. It's roughly on Avenues Risso and Petit Thouars. Inside, there's the usual of fun assortment of stuff, Fruit, Vegetables, Meats,Clothing, and Cooked Food 'restaurants.' There's a couple that give excellent value for your 8 or 9 or 12 Soles.

However, the treat for me is right outside the Mercado. There are three Chinese places that all feature Hanging Ducks and Porks. I'm a big fan. They're not cheap, but they're not expensive either. And you get to pick your Duck, watch him drain it and hack it up, and scarf it down.

The prices that are easier to read are from May 2014; they have gone up a few soles.

Mercado lobaton. ¡You and I ....we will share a breakfast there! Until march mi amigo!

At Mr. Tack in San Miguel, what they call a Taco, you and I might call a Burrito.

Either way, it is really good, really cheap, and they are open late at night. These photos were taken in May 2014, but nothing has changed on recent visits. I wind up there sometimes after an evening of gambling at Casino Miami. It's probably a 5-minute drive from Plaza San Miguel. Try it with Chorizo!

I was able to make a parrillada (BBQ). The choice of meat cuts are limited in Lima; I couldn't find t-bone or flank steak (fajitas). But found some good beef (bistec) and chicken breast. I didn't have to prepare a marinade sauce, the grocery store sells it by the kilo. Yes, I ate it all. I put the leftovers in the freezer and it lasted me a few days.

I just remembered this @Juan Alimaña post yesterday when, wandering around San Isidro, I found T-Bone at a place called Oregon Foods Beef & Market.

They have all the american meat cuts (at a very high price, mind you) and everything you might need or want to put on your grill.

They have stores in San Isidro, Surco and La Molina. Check their website: https://www.oregonfoodscorp.com/
