Peperas?

Hola, in Wikitravel they talk about peperas, or girls that hang out at places like Tequila Rock and "spike" your drink and rob you. Is this actually happening? Is it something I should even worry about? Gracias

 

Yes you should worry because yes, it is happening. But not in places like Tequila Rock or similar.

You will be allright as long as:
- You stay away from low-end cheap joints.
- You NEVER let your drink out of your sight. If it hapens, just throw away your drink and ask for a new one... it is cheaper.
- You NEVER accept a candy or anything to eat, offered by your female companion. You buy your own candy and your own food.

 

As was said previously - Don't let your drink out of your site.

One thing worthy of mention - Is you need to be careful of the Taxis you take as well.
"Tico's" - The small mostly yellow cars often used have a bad rep. among Peruvians.

Use some caution - When you get in any cab
1-Make sure the window will open, and
2-Check that the door will not "lock you in".
If it doesn' pass those tests you might want to look for another cab.

I have heard stories (From Peruvians in Lima) of cabbies spraying "Air Freshener" which will actually knock you out.
If your driver starts spraying something - you may be wise to roll the window down.

It's Peru - Think w/ the big head and exercise some caution and you should be fine.

 

usually in Lima taxi services are fine, so you won´t find so much problem at all
about the "peperas", well, the 0nly advice would be that do not drink too much with a lady, eventually, there are few peruvian girls that would like to drink like men, so you should not trust if a lady, or a group of ladies, 0nly want to drink instead of havin sex
but beware in other cities, for example in Arequipa, there are a lot of thiefs that disguised themselved as taxi drivers and some young ladies that drug and rob you, always remember: "you want to have the girl drunk and not the other way"
