Yes you should worry because yes, it is happening. But not in places like Tequila Rock or similar. You will be allright as long as: - You stay away from low-end cheap joints. - You NEVER let your drink out of your sight. If it hapens, just throw away your drink and ask for a new one... it is cheaper. - You NEVER accept a candy or anything to eat, offered by your female companion. You buy your own candy and your own food.

RT here. I defer to El Senor Gato's superior knowledge on this safety issue. However, his advice: Is an excellent idea ANYWHERE in the world, and should be just about everyone's SOP. Better safe than sorry, especially over the cost of a $3-10 drink.

As was said previously - Don't let your drink out of your site. One thing worthy of mention - Is you need to be careful of the Taxis you take as well. "Tico's" - The small mostly yellow cars often used have a bad rep. among Peruvians. Use some caution - When you get in any cab 1-Make sure the window will open, and 2-Check that the door will not "lock you in". If it doesn' pass those tests you might want to look for another cab. I have heard stories (From Peruvians in Lima) of cabbies spraying "Air Freshener" which will actually knock you out. If your driver starts spraying something - you may be wise to roll the window down. It's Peru - Think w/ the big head and exercise some caution and you should be fine.
