This famous flea market (called mercado Polvos azules) is located in Centro de Lima (downtown Lima) and near Estadio Nacional (national soccer stadium). Their strengths are:

    A. what seems like hundreds of stalls of bootleg movies, video games, TV series on dvd/blu-ray.
    B. many vendors that sell knock-off shirts and clothes (ralph lauren, Lacoste and other famous designer brands)
    C. many vendors that sell shoes and sneakers
    D. there are local mom and pop restaurants across the streets of the flea market. I never tried them, but, if you are feeling adventurous like Tony bourdain,,,take one for the team and write a report...

There are other assorted stalls there which I really don't remember.
All taxis know how to get there. If coming from Miraflores, the taxi ride may cost around ~15 soles, depending on your negotiation skills and luck always helps. Words of advice: I recommend leaving all jewelry at home or in your hotel. don't wear flashy clothes or shoes. always keep your hands on your wallet, cell phone and keys. This place gets jam packed during peak hours and you will feel like a sardine in a can. IMHO, this flea market is not in the best neighborhood, its not the worst neighborhood, but, it is not as safe as miraflores/san isidro/surco...Good Luck and happy shopping.

RT here. I'm not sure that I see all the excitement of Polvos Azules.

Yes, you can buy just about ANYTHING there. But I didn't find the prices all that competitive.

I spend a lot if time in Lima buying a lot of stuff in a lot of places, and I am not impressed.

For example, I bring home boxes of different candies for the people at work (Sublime, Princesa, Cua Cua, etc.) and the prices at Polvos Azules were higher for each item I asked about than I pay at -- for example -- Mercado Surquillo #2 or even the tiny Mercado down towards the end of La Mar in Miraflores. I thought I was being Gringo Taxed, but I also heard them quote the same prices to Peruvians while I was standing there 'deciding.' Hell, the huge Mercado around the corner from Las Cucardas had a great selection and (I thought) equal or better prices. And they NEVER see Gringos.

I was also over-quoted on the standard Peru-logo t-shirts (30 soles for something screen printed).

As a Spectacle, and for people-watching, it's great. It's a wonderful place to bring a first-time visitor so they can tell a Colorful Peru Shopping Adventure Story. And, personally, I didn't feel the security issues that everyone else warns me about.

But as a shopping destination... I don't think so.

    Hey Joe,
Last time I was at Polvos Azules, two or three years ago, there were small restaurants on the roof. Are they still there?

I definitely would not buy any footwear at Polvos Azules. The quality is low and the prices too high. I bought some shoes for the wife and later found similar better quality models at a known shoe store for much less.

back in 2005 I used to go there once in a while to sell my dvd porn collection when i was short of money...then i started to go there just to buy porn....actually they had a good updated seleccion jejeje...but like Rt says the prices do not inpress at all....and like Juan says...everything looks so cheap..actually Polvos Rosados is a better option just because is closer to Miraflores and alot safer...
