Is there any way to get into this hotel for less than $70/night? I stayed there in December, and loved it, but the $100+/night price tag was too much for me.
I read a report once, a guy just walked in and managed to negotiate a rate for around $60/night. I've looked through the internet consolidators, and found Las Americas for as low as $82/night, but that was unconfirmed, they would contact me in 24-48 hours for confirmation(asiarooms.com).
RT, you mentioned as low as $60, depending on where you look...

I would consider Residence Las Americas, but simply have no experience with that hotel, and I know I was happy with their hotel on Benevidas. The rooms aren't the greatest, but the service was excellent! They helped me, as a first-timer in Peru, find everything!

Also, has anyone stayed at La Paz Apart? Its in Miraflores, about 2 blocks from Las Amercas towards the expressway. Their website(lapazaparthotel.com) advertises suites from $70-$120, which I'm guessing can be negotiated for less. The website makes their rooms and location look good, but of course! Anyone ever stay there?

Really, the big question from me is: Has anyone ever negotiated with success at Las Americas?

    Thanks in advance,

RT here. My second visit to Lima (May, 2005), I paid $60 via southamericahotels.net. It was a steal. They currently list the H&S Las Americas at $99, so go for the $82 if you can.

Residencial Las Americas is an excellent option. It's just a little smaller, and I tried to act more like a grown-up there. There was no problem at all with one neatly-dressed, not falling down drunk, girl at a time. At some other locations, the hotel staff wouldn't blink an eye if you walked in with a mule wearing tassels; RLA doesn't offer the anonymity of the larger hotel, so you need to decide if your mongering patterns fit the location.

Well, American Airlines and Spirit Air both put their employees there, and the airlines usually pay next to nothing for hotel rooms, so there has to be some wriggle room; but the airlines also use a LOT of rooms. Good luck -- please report back.

I am certain that AA puts their people in H&S Las Americas -- I've talked to AA employees at the hotel and I had a hard time convincing a Tequila Rock girl that I was NOT a pilot when she found out that I was staying there.

And I was talking to a Spirit flight attendant last Thursday and he told me that they would be staying at the Hotel Las Americas. I suppose that it could have been RLA, but I doubt it. The H&S LA is a more full-service hotel, and that's what the airlines use. Also, it's bigger, so there's less worry about selling out and not having rooms available.

The additional link is certainly going to help in future searches, RT. Thanks for your input.

usu-ario- I was given the nick, a long, long, time ago. Of course, I make sure I still deserve the name, from time to time. :p

The Spirit flight from Fort Lauderdale to Lima with very few exceptions is $199.00

However, coming back is ranging from $199 and up. (Both ex. tax)

    Not bad....

R/T to Lima you can find for about $360 including taxes and fees on Spirit. To be honest it is no frills, cramped seating if flight is full and if you do fly make sure you sit rows 4 thru 9 (two inches more legroom than rows 11 thru 26) Airline Crew rates at the hotel Suites Las Americas go for $103 plus taxes, I'm sure AA crew get the same or similar rate.

Be aware the Suites is now charging $50 USD plus taxes (about $73 USD) if you want to bring a girl/guest over.... They have been changing this back and forth for a few months now and the front desk told me the other night they are considering raising that to $100 plus taxes for a girl/guest to come in with you. This is total B.S. because they argue it's for security reasons, I understand they hold on to the girls ID but if you pay the fee then it's not a security issue?

Las Americas is trying to make money of guys who want to bring girls back to hotel... and making it difficult too FYI

    RT here.

In July 2007, the Las Americas chain was purchased by Thunderbird Resorts for US$43.5 million.

So what went from a nice Peruvian chain turned into part of a large international group of resorts. The first step was to raise the room rates at all of their properties, and then expand their casino interests in Peru.

They consider themselves "a leading international provider of branded casino entertainment," and the new Fiesta Casino is attached to one of their properties. According to their press release, they may add casinos to three more of the Las Americas properties.

Just this last July, they purchased 5 slot-machine 0nly casinos in Peru (0nly one of which is in Lima) for over US$12 million.

It is clear (at least to me), that the Las Americas properties have bigger aspirations than to just be a 'hotel'. With that in mind, I am not surprised that they are actively discouraging 'guests'.

I applaud progress and capital investment; however -- from a selfish point of view -- I am against anything that makes it more difficult for me to monger AND stay in a nice hotel. I hope that this is not the start of a growing trend.

Las Americas is one of the hotels chosen to host the coming delegations from the APEC Summit. Stay away from that hotel for a while, it's just four days and everything returns to normality,
