RT here. Finally, I've found a good restaurant in Lima! OK, there's about about a million of them, but I have found another one.

Puerto Norte is in Lima Centro, just a block and a half from the Av. Espana Metro station. The restaurant is big, clean, and easy to find.

The restaurant is a "Northern" style cebicheria. As far as I can tell, Northern style is pretty much what I have gotten used to in Lima, with just a tweak here and there, and more duck. All in all, I approve wholeheartedly.

For my opening dish, I had the Cebiche Puerto Marino. It was a mixed seafood cebiche with a side of leche de pantera (conchas negras). Delicious. My second dish was a Tacu Tacu (don't remember which one), a rice & bean patty covered with a fish filet, and smothered in a scallop-laden sauce. Shockingly... delicious, too!

I washed the whole thing down with a agua con gas and a pitcher of frozen lemonade. I paid the tab (70 soles, including tip), and headed straight to Lions Spa to try to sweat myself down enough so that I could close my pants.

Puerto Norte has been added to my repeat list; everything was excellent. They were a little costlier than some similar restaurants, but not enough to make a big difference. There were a lot of duck dishes passing by my table, and they all looked good. I really like duck, so my thoughts on good-looking duck dishes may be somewhat suspect.

I don't know what I did with where I wrote down their business hours, but I do remember that they open way early for lunch (9:00 am, I think). If someone local could call them and ask about their hours, that would be a big help.

At a recent trip to Puerto Norte, they almost had to deal with an exploding gringo. It would have been worth a trip to the emergency room.

The conchas parmesan were delicious. Some may prefer them a little more well-done, but not me. The rocoto relleno was stuffed with seafood, and not terribly spicy, and the chupa Puerto Norte was filled with seafood, fish, rice and vegetables. It was very good, but I would probably order one without vegetables next time... they just get in the way.

The check for everything, including a bottle of water, came to 63 soles.

I went to Puerto Norte at around 3pm on a weekday. The place was about 80% full. I was seated near a tv by a young and pretty hostess. The causa was delicious and the presentation was not bad. My seafood rocoto relleno was pretty good too and it didn't take me long to finish it. I will definitely go back there.

Thanks for reminding me, JA. From May, here's a Cebiche Mixto, Cebiche de Conchas Negras, the famous Rocoto Relleno with Mariscos, and the glorious Parihuela.

Great find, RT. I forgot to add that there was no waiting line, and the service was quick and courteous.

RT here. From a December visit, here is the Chupa de Mariscos and a Grilled Octopus.

They have Pulpo-this and Pulpo-that on the menu, but I patiently explained that I just wanted grilled octopus. Just pulpo and a parilla, nada mas. The waiter thought about it, and begged me to let the chef add some garlic and/or other spices. I wholeheartedly agreed.

I have ordered Chupas many times at many places. Puerto Norte's was as good as any of them, I just don't think that I like the mix that goes into a Chupa, as opposed to say, a Parihuela. But if you're a Chupa fan, then go for it!

The Octopus was glorious! It filled the plate, and would have been enough for three normal human beings. I finished every bite, and waddled back to the Metropolitano so I could go to bed and enjoy my octopus-induced coma.

    Exactly, Juan. A fried egg.

When I took my mother to Lima, she loved it. But the story she tells most is how 'everything' had an egg either in or on it!

Here's a clearer shot that I stole from a Google search:

I didn't see the yolk in your fried egg that's why I asked. For a second I thought it was sour cream

I like fried eggs too and wouldn't mind one on most of my dishes . . . sunny side up.
