Gaston's Restaurants????

Good afternoon. RT here.

Some days, it's a toss-up: Girls or Grub? Luckily, Lima offers both!

Two of my favorite restaurants are Astrid y Gaston and La Mar, both owned by my hero, Gastón Acurio.

I understand that he owns/runs some other restaurants in Lima, too. Can anyone tell me where the others are located? I **think** that there's one in San Isidro, but I'm not sure.

As if life isn't good enough, the folks at the Larco Museum were smart enough to recognize food as art and have allowed Sr. Gaston Acurio run the restaurant at the museum.

Cafe Del Museo runs very similar to T'anta in feel. The selection is somewhat more limited, but the food and service were impeccable the day that I was there.

The museum is pretty good, too. They had quite the display of Peruvian artifacts going back about 3,000 years. The museum's admission was 25 Soles. I was given the option of wandering alone (there were paragraphs in English on the walls here and there) or taking an optional docent as a guide. They had no English-speaking women, but I made mine speak slowly, and between my 1st grade Spanish and the English notes, I understood what I was looking at. I wound up tipping the tour guide 30 Soles for the two hours of her time (the tip was descretionary -- the guy who sold me my admission ticket suggested 20 Soles).

I am sorry that I didn't run into him last week, but he is indeed correct -- Panchita is excellent. I will post a full report in its own thread soon, but here's the bread he mentioned and one of the dishes.

 

RT here. I re-visited Panchita last night. It was crowded when we arrived at 9:00 pm and stayed that way until we left at almost 11. We split the scallops appetizer, I had a anticucho of Salmon and my date ordered the full-sized baby beef. It was big enough for three of her meals.. I might not have been able to finish it. It looked a little fatty to me,but she said it was good. My salmon was delicious.

The three dishes, drinks and cover charge came to 155 sols. The steak was pretty expensive, but the rest of the food was reasonable. Click on the thumbnails to enlarge the photos.

I understand that Pasquale Hermanos is a franchise that belongs to Gastón Acurio. The actual restaurants don't.

 

Sometimes I don't communicate well.

I don't give a damn who makes the money, I care who creates the food. Of course the guy can't be in every one of his restaurants all over the world at the same time. He's not making the empanadas at T'anta either, but it is still a Gaston restaurant.

And from the links above, it is clear that the concept and menu are from the mind of Gaston Acurio.

And if you've ever eaten in the sandwich shop, the food quality, service levels, presentation and cleanliness all scream out the level that we have come to expect from this guy.
