It was a lovely day, and I had my GPS with me, so I walked the 3 or so miles back towards Miraflores. It was a little early, but I hadn’t really eaten anything, so I headed to Roky’s for the rodizio.

Roky’s is a chain of family restaurants throughout Peru. This location features rodizio – a Brazilian method of serving barbequed meats. They cook them on long swords, and then bring the meat out and carve it right at your table. Depending on the level of extravagance, the accompanying salad bar can be a meal all in itself as well. Roky’s isn’t that extravagant, but at 25 Soles and 27 on the weekends ($7.46 and $8.06), you can’t go wrong. The service was a little spotty, but it was an off-time, and so what if it took me an extra 15 minutes to get to the point where I thought that I would explode.

After dinner, I was able to waddle back to the apartment to rest up and change my clothes for the evening.

RT here. I had the opportunity to re-visit Roky's for their rodizio last week.

After five years, nothing but the price has changed (37 soles during the week and 42 on weekends). They still bring out enough meat to kill someone, and they happily keep bringing it. The 0nly real excuse that I have for not going back sooner is the huge amount of other options in Lima.

It's not what I would call a gourmet dining experience, but for less than 14 bucks, it's a recommended stop. I took a date with me, and she said that she 0nly previously dreamed of places like this (she's a big-time meat fan). She didn't come out and say it, but I also suspect that she enjoyed it more than some of the more upscale joints I sometimes drag her to.

I might have to give that a try next time in town....I've never gone for the full "Pig Out"... and I do like to eat meat.

As far as chain stores go - it's pretty good, and consistent..(although service can be lacking at times.)
I've been to several different ones around Lima, and other cities -
And I can say that everything i've ever eaten in one of their stores has been fairly good.
From simple pollo a la brasa, to anticuchos and lomo fino.

I went to this joint yesterday. Must say that the food is allright (well..the meat), but as far the service goes...it not 0nly lacks the basics...but at least yestarday I caught a crook. THis was the "wine" guy. A little twerp that might have thought I was a tourist (although Im peruvian but not the typical looking peruvian) and after serving the bottle of Malbec and taking advantage that I was chatting away with my GF and friends, served 4 glasses pretty full and proceeded to take the bottle with him. I 0nly noticed that after I finished my glass and asked for the bottle to which this idiot responded that it had been fully served. Just to prove my point and to show this imbecil that Im not such a fool, I ordered exactly another one. I think the guy knew what was going to happen and when he brought the bottle someone had just call me on the cell. While I was talking not concentrating on the "sommelier's serving" the guy just brought the bottle..din't even show it to me...it was opened already and to top it all...it was well chilled. A bottle of MALBEC!! I must say that the first one was excellent a Navarro Correa from Argentina. But the 2d one....well chilled....forget it...not the same. And proved my point too because out of the bottle came out almost 6 glasses of that particular size.

Needless to say I called the "Manager", another poor soul that must have graduated from a lowly Institute and didn't know SH..T about service. I thought...if someone like this runs this joint....well...I didnt waste any more time and left pretty pissed off to the 3rd story to the Karaoke...where I let my steam singing the night off.

Bear in mind this. As far as Im concerned....Rodizio NEVER MORE!! There are much better places in Lima for steaks...Gian y Marco in San Borja, D'Bife y TInto in San Isidro....even Long Horn in the Jockey Plaza or San Isidro. And the classic joints: La Carreta and El Hornero...

    Regards...

    RT here.

Despite P69's bad experience with the wine guy at Roky's, the rodizio portion of the evening is a can't miss.

I received an email from them yesterday (any comments about why I am on seemingly EVERY restaurant's email list will be ignored jajaja), and they are now serving rodizio in the San Miguel location as well. Presumably, they have a different wine guy working there. (Click on the image to see a larger version)

Rocky should offer more value. While it is not a Pollo tropical
it should be noted that it follows somehow the same business model
where service seems not to be so important

I have been to both la carreta and the hornero, and ofcourse in terms of
service there is a world of difference, just for one thing- they use regular
cloth napkings. But I have spent 300+ soles which is way to expensive.
