Chicharrones Kio Av. Universitaria a half block from Av. La Marina San Miguel Mon-Fri 8:30-2:00, 5:30-9:00 Saturday 8:30-3:00 Sunday 8:30-2:00 So about two years ago, I'm riding around with a friend and he says, "Hey RT -- go there if you want a really good sandwich." Well, it took me a while, but I finally checked Kio out on my last visit, and my amigo was a master of understatement. They have a couple of things on the menu, but the star is the chicharron sandwich -- pork piled high on a delicious bun, with a base of a couple of slices of camote. This place is not fancy, and a non-Peruvian stopping in here seemed to be an event. But the food was fresh, the place was crowded, and everyone was comfortably enjoying themselves -- a neighborhood joint that just happens to have the best sandwich I've ever tasted. You can get a chicharron sandwich just about anywhere, but do yourself a favor and stop by Kio. If you're exiting Plaza San Miguel on Universitaria, cross Av. La Marina and walk a half block away from the mall. It is on your right. The price? 7 Soles for the sandwich and 2 and a half Soles for a soda. I was out of there, fatter and ecstatic, for under four bucks!

You are beginning to know my home city better than I myself, RT! Thanks for the tip. The place is within walking distance from my office and, in fact, I drive right in front of it every day, every time I leave the office.

Well, I guess that we meet for lunch next time! You can go back to work, and I can waddle over to Sauna La Marina!

RT here. Kio is as awesome as ever. Here's an action photo from Kio the other day. The sandwich is up to 8 and a half soles, and worth every centimo. Click to enlarge.

Tried Kio yesterday and the sandwich was very good. Just wondering how others compare it to "El Chinito" in the center of Lima. I was also impressed with the fast and amiable service.

Kio... dude idk why but all of a sudden I feel like having a Pan con Chicharrón right now! That place has never let me down, not even once! I also like Chicharrones "El Chinito" and Chicharrones del Inca which has 2 locations: one in Avenida Brasil and the other one in Caminos del Inca (Surco).
