A monger buddy of mine has a fear of flying. He finds that a ten mg tablet of diazepan (generic form of valium) helps reduce his flight-related anixety considerably. Question: does he need a prescription to get diazepan in Lima?

In theory, yes he does, but in my experience 99 out of 100 "farmacias" will not ask for the prescription.

Not at all. I think that you can find it without prescription in almost any pharmacy or drugstore. If they ask you for a prescription just go to another one, half a block away. Lima is one of the cities in the world with more pharmacies per habitant!

I disagree with the expressed opinions. I could have verified, that having to do with those drugs psychotropic, the drugstore are obeying the legal dispositions. At one point, that the member of the family was with anxiety, I went out to buy an anxiolytic, and no one drugstore sold that drug to me. I went to 7 locales and wholes, they demanded the medical prescription. I had to refuse to buy.

Sorry to hear that, Bucefalo. I do buy drugs like Xanax and another psychothropic without prescription for my grandmother. Once I bought Valium (not for me but for a dog that won't let me sleep) and didn't have a problem either. Drugstores in high-class neigborhoods are more inclined to follow the rules but not in the area around my home. Anyway, from another point of view, it's good to know that Peru has a better and formal regulations now. Jerome
